Shining Sisters Week Twelve

Madeline Richmond

Converted Tiger fan, Clemson Tour Guide, ADPi sister, & future Dermatologist! These are just a few ways of describing Madeline!

Madeline Richmond, AC’ 19

Madeline Richmond, AC’ 19

“None of my family members went to Clemson and I did not grow up a Tiger, in fact I grew up cheering on the Gamecocks-- I know what you’re thinking. Clemson was the first college campus I ever visited. When I was a sophomore in high school, I participated in a program called C-Cats where students from all over the state of South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia came to Clemson to spend a weekend growing their leadership skills and participating in team-building and academic activities. While I only spent a short weekend at Clemson, I automatically knew that there was something truly special about this place. When it came time for me to start seriously looking at schools a couple of years later, I visited all over the country. But no matter where I went, I couldn’t help compare them to Clemson. When I came back for a second tour my senior year, I felt the same feeling I initially felt the first time I stepped on campus. There is a poem written by Joe Sherman, class of 1934, entitled, “Something in These Hills,” in which the alumnus speaks of the indescribable feeling those who come to Clemson experience not just as students, but long after they leave this wonderful place. I knew exactly what I was looking for in a school, I didn’t just want an exceptional education, life-long friends, or your typical college town, I wanted to come to a place that felt like home, where I could cultivate meaningful relationships, and a place I would never want to leave. I can truly say that after less than two short years here, Clemson has exceeded all of those wishes and more. This has become the place I hate to leave, and the one I am most excited to come back to. The decision to come to Clemson was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made, and one I knew I would not regret. There truly is “something in these hills.”

One of the things I love about Clemson is how involved all of the students are; no one is involved in just one thing. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of ADPi, Clemson University Guide Association, the Elections Board, and MedEx Club. Each organization is so different but have all had a cumulative impact on my Clemson career in different ways.

Clemson University Guide Association was something I knew I wanted to get involved with when I came to Clemson. I had an amazing tour guide when I came to Clemson and knew I wanted the opportunity to pay it forward. I just became a tour guide recently and have been going through the training process to give tours on my own. While I am still training, it has already been so rewarding. A family came up to me the other day and said that Clemson was the third school they had visited that weekend, but that their tour here was the most special. It’s the smaller comments like that one and other moments with prospective students that bring me so much joy! All of the tour guides have quickly become another family to me. They are beyond supportive and super fun; I feel extremely lucky to be a part of this organization.

One of my favorite Clemson memories was road tripping to New Orleans for the National Championship game with six of my best friends! How many girls can you fit in one bedroom at the Ritz? Seven! Yes that is right the seven of us had a three night sleepover together in tight quarters and I have never had more fun. I had never been to New Orleans before and loved exploring the city and cheering on my Tigers. While we didn’t win the game, it was a successful weekend and I still bleed orange. CU in Miami baby!

ADPi has allowed me to meet amazing friends and find great support. I feel so thankful for everything it has given me in my short time in this chapter. I recently moved on the hall which has been such a fun experience. I know that I could knock on any of the girls’ doors and talk to them about anything! I am beyond lucky to be surrounded by such a strong group of girls with incredible character and determination.

I’m a Health Science major with an emphasis in Pre- Professional Health Studies and a minor in Spanish Studies. My dream job would be becoming a dermatologist, but right now I’m just trying to survive organic chemistry! I’m pretty rigid with my schedule but try to find balance in life. It’s a never ending juggle of learning to prioritize and running is my go to stress reliever. My dad and I are hoping to run a half marathon together in the near future.”- Madeline Richmond, AC ‘19

Georgia Garner

Our Director of Primary Recruitment, Georgia, is learning how to “enjoy the present” and taking in all of her wonderful Clemson experiences!

Georgia Garner, AC ‘18

“My Clemson story is unique because I am actually the first person in my family  to ever go to Clemson. My dad is a U of SC fan and my sister is going to U of SC next year (gotta love a little family rivalry). When I toured Clemson two years ago in the fall, I absolutely fell in love with the red brick buildings and red, orange, and yellow trees. I am from Charleston and we don’t really have a true fall season, so I was blown away by how beautiful Clemson was. Every fall semester on campus reminds me how much I love Clemson and why I made the best decision in choosing Clemson.

My absolute favorite extracurricular involvement is Night To Shine held by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Every year, I get to volunteer and be a part of one of the most special nights for adults with intellectual disabilities at ALIVE Wesleyan University. I have many ClemsonLIFE friends that attend the event, and it is so fun to see their gratitude and joy all night long.  If you’ve never heard of Night to Shine you should look it up! And if you have never volunteered but have thought about doing it, here is your sign to do it!

I am the Director of Primary Recruitment for ADPi this year! I am so thrilled to work with our Vice President of Marketing, Anna Rhett Allen, to put on the best recruitment! My position includes planning out Spirit Weekend, creating decorations for each round, and planning and organizing the entire week of Recruitment for ADPi. I am so beyond excited for this upcoming fall and getting to meet so many amazing potential new members going through recruitment, along with spending time with all of my sisters!

The best memory I have in college so far would have to be Bid Day 2019. This Bid Day was SO much fun—I just couldn’t stop smiling! I love every single girl we welcomed into Alpha Delta Pi last year and I was so excited for them to learn more about ADPi and why it is truly so special. The best part of Bid Day was 100% getting to dance all night in the West End Zone!

The transition to college for me was super difficult and Alpha Delta Pi truly allowed me to adapt to college and learn how to have fun in the process. All of my sisters were so supportive in every way and loved me through that hard time. I am so thankful for them and have had so much fun living on the hall this year with all of my Delta class. It is such a good feeling to know that you have so many friends ready to help and show up when you need them to!—or come to your rescue when you need a dress last minute for a function when your original outfit doesn’t work out (thank you Elizabeth Jones you’re the bomb!)

One of my goals this semester has been to really have fun in the process of navigating college and my future, and to not take life so seriously sometimes. We all get so focused on what is coming next that we forget to look at what is happening right in front of us. It is really easy to glance over all of the wonderful things right in front of you when you are stressed out over school, so it has been really important for me to slow down and enjoy the present!” - Georgia Garner, AC ‘18

  • Role Model?

“My role model is definitely my mom. She shows so much grace in everything that she does, and she is such an amazing person. She teaches me to lead with kindness and reminds me of the value of perceptive. Oh, and she’s also a boss lady!”

  • Childhood Trend You Miss?

“A childhood trend I miss is bike riding. I miss riding bikes before we all had our driver’s license and just randomly going to gas stations during the summertime and getting an ICEE in your Roocup…good times!”

  • Dream Job?

My dream job is to be a Physicians Assistant. I really want to work with sweet little babies in the NICU or work as a Pediatric PA for little children. As long as I’m with kids I’m good to go!”

Sydney Brown

This Tennessee girl has fully immersed herself in everything Clemson has to offer! Sydney shares her involvement with the College of Engineering, Ethicon, and Make Your Mark!

Sydney Brown, AC ‘17

Sydney Brown, AC ‘17

“For me, the story pretty much begins and ends with the fact that Clemson simply felt like home. I'm originally from Franklin, Tennessee, and I had tons of schools on my list to visit and apply. No other school could compare to the way Clemson made me feel comfortable and hopeful for the best four years possible. I haven't regretted my decision for a single second!

By far my favorite thing to do outside of classes is being a tour guide/ambassador for the College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences. My major is Bioengineering, and I love being able to represent the department by showing parents and prospective students why I love BioE so much. Every few Fridays, I have so much fun giving presentations, walking students through our labs, and telling them why my classmates have become some of my best friends.

I am in the midst of my second co-op rotation with one of Johnson & Johnson's medical device companies, Ethicon. I work in the main manufacturing plant in Cornelia,GA, where we make almost 80% of the sutures used for surgery in the entire world (which is pretty crazy when you think about it). We also manufacture needles, Dermabond (basically skin glue), and injection molded parts for surgery. I work as a Quality Engineer, which means that I do a lot of statistics, process control, process/equipment validation, and overall just ensuring that every product that leaves our doors is safe and effective. I'm getting such great experience and exposure to the medical device industry through this co-op position.

I started with Make Your Mark over a year ago as a college ambassador but have now taken on the role of VP of Research. As an organization, our goal is to enter high schools and be an available resource to girls for really whatever they need as they take steps toward graduation and are thinking about what lies after high school. As the VP of Research, it is my job to make sure that all of our mentors and team members that interact with these high school girls are fully informed about options after high school that don't only involve college. It is my hope that Make Your Mark can provide female mentors for girls who might not have had them otherwise.

I only have two semesters of classes left in my curriculum, which means I am nearing the end. This is equally as exciting and terrifying, but luckily I am feeling ready to start planning my next steps after college. This semester, I am making final decisions about career goals and heavily researching graduate schools. After graduation, I am hoping to enter a masters program for Health Informatics. I would love to eventually use this advanced degree in a hospital setting, managing their data systems in order to optimize care and minimize cost.”- Sydney Brown, AC ‘17

  • Go-To Throwback Jam?

"9 to 5" by Dolly Parton. This song never fails to make me sing at the top of my lungs; there's something about Dolly that's just good for the soul.”

“In a perfect world, I would love to own a bookstore and bakery. Think M.Judson's in Greenville, the same kind of idea. This would be the absolute perfect job because it combines my two favorite things: baking and books!”

  • Spirit Animal?

“My spirit animal is definitely a French Bulldog. They're sassy, sweet, and curious, and I have plans to hopefully own one after I graduate!”

  • Happy Place?

“Any screened in porch on a rainy day. There's nothing that beats the feeling of curling up under a blanket and listening to the rain. I love a good rainy day almost as much as a sunny one.”

“Deciding to go to Clemson was an easy choice for me because it’s basically a tradition for the Goforth family. I grew up coming to Clemson football and basketball games with my dad and learned all about my parent’s time at Clemson. After listening to them and my brother talk about their Clemson memories for many years, I knew that I wanted to create my own Clemson memories as well!

Recently I competed in the National Collegiate Shag Competition in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. My partner, Justin Hoffner, and I represented Clemson in this competition and were coached by my best friend, Ivy Claire Huiet. Competing in this competition is definitely a moment I will never forget! Ivy Claire decided to give us a fast and fun song to dance to that pumped not only the crowd up, but Justin and I as well! By the end of the dance, we had everyone in the crowd participating in the infamous cadence count. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in this competition and advise everyone to compete in it as well. Hopefully we can continue the tradition and bring home another Natty win!

At the beginning of freshman year, I was hesitant about joining a sorority because I did not know how I would be able to balance my schedule initially arriving to college. Looking back, I am so thankful that I decided to join Alpha Delta Pi because it has helped me in a multitude of ways. Alpha Delta Pi has helped me learn how to balance my schedule, find my forever friends, and break it down on the dance floor with my sisters.

Since I just switched my major to Packaging Science, my goal for this semester is to get heavily involved in my packaging classes as well as the Packaging Science Club to assist me with my co-op next spring. Another one of my goals while at Clemson is to go to a National Championship game and see the Tigers win. I am hoping I will be in Miami next year to witness the Tigers bring home another National Championship win!” - Mary Ashlyn Goforth, AC ‘18

✺ Fun Facts

  • Celebrity You Would Like to be BFF’s With?

“If I could be best friends with any celebrity it would have to be the one and only Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He has always been my celebrity crush and I would love to be able to hang out with him and hear all the crazy stories he has to tell about his life!”

  • Role Model?

“My role model is my grandma, Neenah. Being the youngest of three, I always was picked up by my grandparents after school and taken to their house until my parents got off of work or until my siblings could come get me. My grandparents taught me many things, but my Neenah taught me everything I know about fashion, etiquette, and my walk with The Lord.”

  • Dream Job?

“My dream job would be to pursue a career as a Dermatologist. I have always found the skin very interesting and love watching videos from the famous Dr. Pimple Popper!”

  • Happy Place?

“My happy place would probably have to be at the lake. There is nothing better than wake surfing and jet skiing on a hot summer day with friends.”

“I grew up as an Alabama fan and knew for certain I was Bama bound. But I was encouraged to tour Clemson by my dance teacher who was a huge Clemson fan and after touring Clemson, I was overwhelmed with an indescribable  feeling. I knew that the Tide would not be rolling for this girl anymore because there was truly something in these hills and I couldn't imagine going to college anywhere else.

I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the Miss Clemson pageant experience. From meeting and creating friendships with 15 girls, to rehearsals, to being able to experience it all together on the stage. It was truly one of the highlights of my Clemson experience thus far and a memory I will never forget.

My main goal as Miss Clemson is to create more of a relationship with the Clemson Child Development Center since it is the philanthropy for Mortar Board and the reason the Miss Clemson title even exists. Whether it be monthly visits or hosting events to raise awareness and funds for the CCDC, I hope to make an impact on their organization and bring to light the importance of this organization in our community.

Joining ADPi has been such a stepping stone in my Clemson experience. The girls in ADPi inspire me everyday to get involved on Clemson’s campus and push me to be the best version of myself every day. It is the relationship with my sisters that has helped me become the individual I am today.

My goals for the future include graduating from Clemson University with my undergraduate degree in Communications with a concentration in Health Communications and a dual-minor in Brand Communications and Sociology in May 2021. Additionally, I plan to begin my graduate program next semester here at Clemson and plan to graduate in May 2021 with a Masters in Communications, Technology, and Society. I want to pursue a career in the Health Communications field working directly in a children’s hospital as an advocate for patients and improving the communication barriers between doctors and patients. But really, no matter where life takes me, one thing for sure and that is I will still be cheering on my tigers.” - Mattie Lee, AC ‘18

  • Favorite Quote?

“You are never promised tomorrow.” This is one of my favorite quotes and has been more apparent lately in my life because it is a constant reminder that we should live everyday to the fullest. • Spirit Animal?

“Definitely a Panda Bear. They are fat, happy, and live a calm life. What more could you ask for?”

  • Best Clemson Memory?

“When I made the Rally Cat dance team, my entire Clemson experience truly changed. Having suffered through a major knee injury my senior year of high school, all the expectations I had coming into college had changed. But by being able to train again and accomplish a major goal of mine, I was able to fulfill a dream that I thought would never happen again. Being a part of this team has been a defining part of my Clemson Experience.”

  • Childhood Trend you Miss?

December + January Recap

A Glimpse Into ZN’s December + January

IMG_5577.jpg

This winter has been full of officer transitions, sister meet-ups in the Big City, changing lives in Cuba, cheering on the Tigers, and the beginning of the spring semester! Our break and Clemson have kept each of us on our toes and we are so excited to be back in the swing of all things school, ADPi, and Bachelor Mondays! Keep reading to see what our sisters have been up to these past two months!

Zeta Nu Officer Transition

Before winter break, Zeta Nu welcomed the 2020 Officer Committee! Emory Devolder (2019 Zeta Nu President) passed the wonderful job of President to Kendall Goedeke! The 2019 Officer Committee was absolutely amazing and the new committee will strive to serve this chapter to the best of their ability!

“I will strive to lead with love and serve as a connector of people, ideas, and opportunities so that our chapter is full of women who are engaged and admired at all times.”

-Kendall’s Vision Statement-

CU in AZ for the Fiesta Bowl!

Some of our sisters were spoiled with Arizona’s beautiful scenery this break! The Fiesta Bowl was held in Phoenix where the Tigers won to make their way to the National Championship game for the 4th time in 5 years. Zeta Nu represented well at the championship game and our sisters enjoyed their stay in this beautiful city!

Winter Break Getaways!

Paris, France! Havana, Cuba! Queenstown, New Zealand! These are just a few places that our sisters had the privilege of traveling to this winter break! Snow and shine made for a great mix of unforgettable activities for Zeta Nu. The pictures below are a glimpse into the awesome winter break we had and will forever be memories we are able to keep with our ADPi sisters.

“Cuba was incredible! During this trip we installed filters in peoples homes so they have access to clean and healthy water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and anything else! The people were kind and welcoming. The food was new and fun to try. And the relationships made were lasting. My favorite part by far was getting to work alongside my ADPi sisters, sleeping in bunk beds, laughing at ourselves during our daily game nights, and more than anything growing together as a team showing endless love to each other and the people we served.” - Julia Ann Funk (AC ‘17)

-Our Sisters Take on NOLA for the NATTY-

Clemson University played in the National Championship this year for the third year in a row! Even though the Tigers did not make it home with a trophy, they were able to experience life in New Orleans. Beads and beignets put smiles on the faces of many of the Tiger fans! Exploring NOLA and cheering on the Tigers (no matter the outcome) was the highlight of many of our sisters’ first weekend of this spring semester.

Adelphean Compass & Officer Academy

The Adelphean Compass is one of Alpha Delta Pi’s signature leadership programs designed specifically for women and emphasizes a focus on Leading with Self, Vision, Action, and Relationships. Our President and Vice President of Panhellenic Relations, Kendall Goedeke and Jordan Barnes, attended this year.

Officer Academy is a new model of training incorporating leadership and skill development in the context of Alpha Delta Pi operational areas. The academy offered our sisters officer training and chapter leadership transition workshops where they gained skills to enable them to excel in their leadership roles and navigate challenges facing collegiate women today. Our Executive Officers had the privilege of attending this awesome weekend at Officer Academy!

Shining Sisters Week Ten

Claire Funk

This future Environmental Engineer and newly initiated Delta member, Claire, is taking every second she can to experience each enriching moment that is put in her path!

Claire Funk, AC ‘19

Claire Funk, AC ‘19

“When it came time for me to start applying to schools, I never had a doubt in my mind where I wanted to go. I wanted to follow in the steps of my grandpa and dad to become a third generation Tiger (and a third generation Clemson engineer)! When I toured, I loved how passionate everyone was about their school, and I knew that I wanted the opportunity to form my own Clemson experience. While I toured other schools, the atmosphere and my emotional connection with Clemson from day one could never be duplicated. I felt so confident in my choice to go to Clemson. It was the only school I applied to, which made getting my Tiger Town Bound letter that much sweeter. You could say "my blood runs orange," and I would not trade these moments and memories for the world.

Recruitment was definitely a fun experience for me because I loved learning about Greek life at Clemson; however, the highlight of my week was going into ADPi last in every round. While most are exhausted by the end of a long recruitment day, I always felt rejuvenated when I walked into ADPi because of the love and acceptance I received. Meeting my big in third round or talking to my sister in preference round will be special memories that I will always cherish. Meeting new friends in college was one of my biggest concerns; however, ADPi made meeting new people so easy.  After eavesdropping on a conversation in Chick-Fil-A and hearing someone talk about being a new member in ADPi, I met one of my best friends. It is unexpected friendships and enriching experiences that make joining a sorority so worth it.

My family took a road trip to New Orleans for the National Championship game, and even though we did not win the memories made there with my family were so special. My favorite part of the trip was definitely the food (I am a BIG foodie!!). I tried chargrilled oysters for the first time which I loved and of course the beignets and coffee at Cafe Du Monde were a highlight of the trip. I am sure everyone saw lots of pictures of these powdered sugar covered treats from heaven! Going into the stadium to find that our seats were surrounded by LSU fans did not deter our excitement for the tigers and we cheered them on till the very end. We love our tigers and we'll CU in Miami!

One of my biggest goals for the next semester is to really put into action Emory's goal for the chapter last year which was: "Be Bold. Be Brave. Be Better." One thing I admire about so many ADPi girls is their motivation to be their best selves and their ability to encourage others to achieve this as well. This semester I want to be the best version of myself academically, spiritually, and in my relationships. This may require me to be bolder or braver than I usually am; however, it will lead me to be the achievement of my own goals and to encourage others. I am currently an Environmental Engineering major and hope to one day be installing or designing water filtration systems for countries in need. I cannot wait to see how God will use me through this career path and in my next three and a half years at Clemson.” - Claire Funk, AC ‘19

Cely Elrod

After being introduced to Zeta Nu by her sister, Cely found her forever home here in Alpha Delta Pi, where she has made friends that she hopes will be her future coworkers one day!

Cely Elrod, AC’ 18

Cely Elrod, AC’ 18

“I have been a Clemson fan my entire life, so when it came to choosing a college, it wasn't much of a question. I always looked up to my grandpa, cousins, aunts and older sister who were a part of the Clemson tradition before me. Growing up going to football games in Death Valley and spending that precious time with my family gave me a window into just how special of an experience it was to be a part of the Clemson family. This continued into my junior and senior year of high school when I had the opportunity to watch my older sister become a member of the Rally Cat dance team, move into her freshman dorm and start her own journey. As a result of this, by spring of my senior year of high school, I was so determined to make a Clemson story of my own. It has been the best decision I have ever made!

I was first introduced to ADPi when my sister became a member of the Zeta Nu three years before I did. I was able to see the impact it made on her life, the friends that she made and the pride that she held in our sisterhood. When it came time for me to go through recruitment, I did my best to keep an open mind, but it was difficult when ADPi immediately felt like a home. When bid day came around, I remember being so nervous to open my envelope because I wanted to be a part of a chapter that was so welcoming and genuine as the women in Zeta Nu. I opened my bid and felt the excitement for what was to come; however, the real magic didn’t happen until our alpha class sleepover a few weeks later. On Friday night, we were given the opportunity to introduce ourselves to each other and to get to know our new sisters on a new level. Ever since then, the friends that I have made out of my sisters in Zeta Nu have turned into my neighbors, my best friends and hopefully my future coworkers!

I love days on the lake with my family and friends. Especially over the last two summers, after my parents moved to Lexington, SC on Lake Murray, our most popular weekend spot is on the water! There is nothing that I enjoy more than floating on the boat, listening to music and soaking in the sun with the people that I love the most.

Over Christmas break, me and my family traveled to Washington, D.C. to visit my sister and attend a Christmas cocktail at the White House! My parents and younger sister squeezed into my older sister’s one bedroom apartment for a few days to sightsee, try new foods and get a feel of the city life. While we were there, we went in the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, several different museums and of course the most famous house in America. The last night that we were there, we got to dress up, meet my sister in the East Wing of the White House and even saw a glimpse of the President and First Lady. Afterwards, my sister gave us a tour of the West Wing where she works everyday. It was one of the best trips my family has ever taken and was full of so much fun history!

My main goal for the semester is to get as much experience for my future career as a first or second grade teacher as possible! I love kids and am so excited to work with them in my own classroom!” - Cely Elrod, AC ‘18

Abigail Brownell

As Abigail continues her journey in becoming a teacher, she will be exemplify her dad’s admirable quality and follow her dreams!

“Having grown up in Clemson, I always thought that I would choose to go to a different school that was farther away from home. However, when it came time for me to tour different schools, my parents made me tour Clemson’s campus “just incase I was overlooking it.” My parents ended up being exactly right. The tour made me fall in love with the school and it’s charming small-town feel all over again. I realized that Clemson was truly my home and that I couldn’t see myself going anywhere else!

Joining ADPi has greatly impacted my time here at Clemson. Not only has ADPi given me my best friends and the most unforgettable memories, but it’s also given me a support system of 280+ girls that I can always count on to lift me up, hold me accountable, and make me feel loved and accepted.

My dad has always been one of my biggest role models. He was recently recognized as the winningest men’s basketball coach in Clemson’s history, however, I believe that his most admirable quality is his ability to never give up on reaching his goals. Throughout his coaching career, he has consistently exemplified what it means to work towards reaching your goals, no matter how difficult it may be. He is one of the most hard-working people that I know and is a direct reflection of everything that Clemson stands for. Being able to watch my dad represent Clemson so well has made me extremely proud to be able to say that I went to Clemson.

I was recently accepted into Clemson’s Teacher Residency Program in the College of Education, where I will be continuing my education to receive a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning in Elementary Education! I am so blessed to have been given the opportunity to expand my skills and knowledge of teaching and cannot wait to have my own classroom in the future!

After I graduate, the one thing that I will miss most about my college experience at Clemson is the people. There’s a reason why people describe Clemson as having a “family atmosphere” and that’s 100% because of the people that make it up. Throughout my time here at Clemson, I’ve been able to create lifelong friendships with so many different kinds of people that have helped give me the best college experience!” ~Abigail Brownell, AC ‘16

✺ Fun Facts ✺

  • Celebrity You Would Like to be BFF’s With?

“I would love to be BFF’s with Lauren Akins (Thomas Rhett’s wife)! I think that she’s such a great role-model for young women, and I’ve always had the biggest girl crush on her!! She was actually an ADPi at the University of Tennessee when she was in college, too, which I think is pretty cool!”

  • Best Clemson Memory?

My best Clemson memory was definitely the day that my younger sister, Kate, chose to go ADPi. Having her run down to me on Bid Day was the best feeling ever, because I was so excited for her to be given the same amazing experience in college that ADPI had given me. This day was such a special memory that I will always hold close to my heart. I always joke with her about how she didn’t get to choose me as a sister the first time around, but she did this time!”

“My dream job is to be a 2nd grade teacher! Ever since I was a little girl, I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher. I’ve always had a passion for children, and I can’t imagine spending my life doing anything else!”

  • Happy place?

My happy place would definitely be the beach! There’s just something so calming and relaxing about being at the beach that makes me feel like all of my stress and worries have disappeared.

“I’ve been cheering on the Tigers for as long as I can remember. Since I was a little girl, I’ve tailgated with my family at every home football game and shared endless memories with them in Death Valley. Clemson has always felt like home to me. There is something so special about this little town and all of the people in it. I only applied to Clemson and USC, but I always knew I would choose Clemson. My love for this town and university has grown so much throughout my first semester. From watching countless sunsets at the rowing docks to pulling all nighters in Cooper Library, I’ve already made some of the best memories of my life. However, these memories would not be complete without the wonderful friends I have met.

Since I joined Alpha Delta Pi, I have met some of the most amazing girls in the world. In high school, I prayed for the friendships that I have today. In this sorority, I have found girls who genuinely support me and lift me up. I met friends to laugh with, cry with, study with, and just do life with. My roommate and high school best friend, Berkley, also joined ADPi. This has made us so much closer, and we have so much fun together. There are many older girls in ADPi that I look up to so much. I have the best Big in the world and have so many mentors and big sisters that have been there for me. These girls made my transition into Clemson so much easier.

Over winter break, my mom and I planned a girls’ trip and flew to New York City for several nights. One of my best friends, Olivia, who is one of my ADPi sisters, took a four hour train ride from Maryland to join us! We walked around Times Square in the snow, did a lot of shopping and probably enjoyed the food and restaurants a little too much! We also went to the Color Factory, saw the Radio City Rockettes, and took in Mean Girls on Broadway. We had such an amazing time and even met up with Emma, another sister, and spent some time exploring with her. I am so thankful that ADPi brought us together because I don’t know what I would do without them. I am so blessed to have such a great group of friends and sisters!

I am currently majoring in Biological Sciences and minoring in Psychology. I plan on attending medical school and as of now, my goal is to become a Psychiatrist. I am also interested in several other fields of medicine but Psychiatry has always been an interest of mine. I am fascinated by the way the brain works and feel that there are so many people out there who can benefit from some type of medical intervention or treatment. My goal is to make an impact on this particular population and to do my part in trying to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. I plan to continue focusing on my academic goals over the next few years, and I hope to keep meeting new friends every step of the way!” ~ Autumn Floyd, AC ‘19

“Clemson has always been my dream school, but going to school here was not the easiest decision for me to make. I have always wanted to be a nurse, and I knew this was going to be challenging because of Clemson’s very competitive program. After getting bridged, this seemed to be an even more impossible goal for me to reach. However, after much debate, I decided to go after what I really wanted. My bridge year was awesome, but I never felt that I was fully involved in Clemson the way I wanted to be. Joining a sorority was something that I saw myself loving. So, sophomore year was one of the best years because I finally had gotten to where I had wanted to be for so long. I applied to the Nursing program in the spring and after much praying and stressing I got that amazing email saying that I had been accepted. It was one of the best feelings in the world to reach that goal I had.

Other than ADPI I am a member of CUSG transfer Council and serve as the bridge outreach committee head. I love being able to connect with students that are going through the same process I went through. I also help recruit people for a program here at Clemson that facilitates international service and learning where students get to go on medical mission trips to impoverished areas. I also recently got a position as an Anatomy and Physiology PAL leader so I am super excited for this semester.

Joining Alpha Delta Pi has brought me so much joy. I have met girls that have become the kind of friends that I have always wanted. ADPi is so unique and diverse in the type of girls that we are. However, we all have these underlying qualities that make us sisters in the most beautiful way. I have so many different types of friends in this sorority. One of my favorite things about ADPi is that when I get to know someone that I haven't previously been friends with, I can always find something that we have in common. It feels like you can’t meet a stranger.

Over Christmas break, I got the most amazing opportunity to travel to Cuba on a mission trip with some girls in ADPi that I knew but had previously never really gotten to know on a personal level or spent time with. It was incredible to learn so much about them in such a short period of time. I am very thankful for that opportunity and all the opportunities that ADPi has given me to meet incredible and inspiring girls. It has been the biggest blessing and really made my college experience.” ~ Jayden Barnes, AC ‘ 18
