Hey PNMs! Why ADPi #4!
✰Elizabeth Jones’ Spotlight + Why ADPi!✰
“When I walked out of ADPi's rounds, I wished I could have just texted them that night to see if they wanted to grab dinner. The fit was seamless. I wasn't exaggerating my stories; I felt comfortable. I felt a sense of home.”
Hi!! I am a senior Graphic Communications major from Crystal River, Florida, but I grew up close to Clemson in Clinton, South Carolina. Coming to Clemson was new to my family and me. My mom and grandmother were both ADPi's, but at different schools, so I knew coming into recruitment how much ADPi meant to my family. Being the oldest child, I was so excited to go through recruitment to be around older girls that would mentor me through my college experience. It was vital for me to find sisters who would guide and mentor me throughout my college experience. I was lucky enough to find it through ADPi!
I came to Clemson with my best friend from home, and we both decided to go through recruitment. She was the only girl that I knew going through recruitment, and since we were in different pi chi groups, I didn't see her for the majority of the day. I had to rely heavily on my pi chi (that was amazing) and my group text with my mom, grandmother, and a close family friend. I found myself constantly getting excited before each round because I love meeting and talking to new people. My pi chi told me to try and imagine myself making plans or hanging out with the person I spoke to in a normal setting- not just in recruitment. I continued to ask myself these questions in other rounds, but when I came to ADPi, I didn't feel the stress of asking myself whether or not it was natural. When I walked out of ADPi's rounds, I wished I could have just texted them that night to see if they wanted to grab dinner. The fit was seamless. I wasn't exaggerating my stories; I felt comfortable. I felt a sense of home. Many girls instantly made me feel cared for, precisely the feeling that I wanted from a sorority.
Now being on the other side, I get so excited to meet all of the new PNM's. I always hope to become the big sister figure to other girls, the same way that I could find through ADPi. I hope you have the best experience and give as much as you can into the process. Whatever you put in is what you'll ultimately get out. If you're ever curious or want to talk, I encourage you to reach out. We all want the best for you guys and hope you find a home away from home, especially in ADPi :)
